Lokotsav in Canacona was a grand showcase of the region's rich cultural diversity and heritage. This annual festival, which celebrates the folk traditions, crafts and arts of Goa and neighbouring States, brought together artisans, performers and cultural enthusiasts — creating an environment brimming with creativity and authenticity.
The festival hosted a variety of performances ranging from Goan folk dances like "Dhalo" and "Fugdi" to performances by troupes from across India.
One of the highlights of Lokotsav was the craft bazaar, where artisans from different regions exhibited their handmade products. The exhibition featured stalls displaying traditional Goan pottery, bamboo crafts, wood carvings and more. Local artisans from Canacona and beyond found a platform to sell their handcrafted items, supporting their livelihoods and ensuring that their traditional techniques are passed down through generations.
In line with the Swayampurna Goa initiative's mission to foster self-reliance, Lokotsav 2023 empowered rural entrepreneurs by providing opportunities for skill enhancement, market access and greater visibility. Lokotsav also offered an opportunity to indulge in the region's culinary delights — from Goan fish curry and rice to the much-loved bebinca and sannas. Local chefs and home-based entrepreneurs showcased their culinary expertise, offering festival-goers a taste of authentic Goan flavours.
More than just a cultural festival, Lokotsav was a celebration of heritage, community and sustainability.
